Jo Ann Day Freeman Scholarships

Two annual scholarships are given by FAzA in honor of Jo Ann Day Freeman, the first president of FAzA and a longtime supporter of archives issues in Arizona. The scholarships are designed to promote the professional development of new archivists and students preparing to become archivists, by underwriting their attendance at professional conferences and workshops held in Arizona.

Such conferences include the annual workshop of the Coordinating Committee for History in Arizona (CCHA), the annual Arizona Historical Convention, any workshop sponsored by the Society of American Archivists or Society of Southwestern Archivists, and other archives-related meetings, workshops, or conferences held in Arizona.

Each scholarship provides $200 that is to be applied toward the cost of conference or workshop registration, lodging, meals, and travel.

To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to a career in archival administration and meet one of the two following criteria:

Applicants must submit a two-page application letter describing why they should receive the scholarship and what conference or workshop they will attend. A letter of recommendation from someone familiar with the applicant's goals in the archival profession must accompany the letter.

Applicants may apply anytime after January 1 for scholarships for that year. Applications will be considered as they are received and the scholarships awarded to the first two applicants deemed to be qualified.

Application letters should be mailed to Freeman Scholarship; Friends of Arizona Archives; P. O. Box 64532; Phoenix, Arizona 85082-4532.
